Rainforest Foundation Website

The brief
The New Fat were commissioned to take their old website – which had become a little dated and refresh it to fall in line with other UK and global charities. The aim was to make it modern, easy to navigate and versatile for the client to edit. This involved designing not only the visual style but also a new site structure, using self populating content where possible. Throughout the project we kept within the brand guidelines and ethos of the RFUK.
Big on imagery, easy to navigate and mobile friendly
One of the RFUKs key aims was to make the site easier to navigate for the user. The old site was narrow and used a side navigation. The removal of this in the new design allowed us to make the site full width which in turn allowed us to get more content and larger graphics/videos onto the pages. A simple, clean homepage with the use of large bold imagery for page links (a style carried on throughout the site) is straight to the point and allows the user to easily navigate to different sections of the site.
Making information and resources easier to find
The introduction of a “refine by” tool in the news and publication sections allows users to easily find relevant information easily.
You can filter blogs and news articles by date and category. The new publication resource goes even further – allowing the user to search documents by country, category, language and date. With the ability to view or download pdf resource files.
Interactive maps, animated stats and infographics
RFUK wanted to showcase their current ongoing global projects. We created specific templates that incorporated larger header images, featured videos/publication, testimonials, interactive maps and partner/funder logos. These project pages are fully administrable in the back end and allow the client to easily tailor the info to their exact needs. In other areas of the site we also introduced a set of bespoke infographics, maps and animated stats to add some interest to different sections of the site, again all administrable in the back end.
Multilingual
As a lot of the RFUKs projects are in French speaking countries it was essential that the new site was multilingual. To do this we created a back end system that currently has 2 different site trees, one in English and one in French so the client can tailor each site to that particular language and add translated imagery. This multilingual feature has scope to add further languages easily in the future.
The outcome
“The redesign of our website was long overdue and the result has exceeded all expectations. Working with the New Fat team was, as always, hassle-free – they understood our needs completely and did everything possible to ‘make it happen’ within the limits of our small budget. We have already received many compliments on the simple, visually engaging design and managing our content is easier than ever.”
