FORDE’S – INDEPENDENT COFFEE AND SANDWICH BAR - BRANDING
“It was great to discuss my ideas face to face with a designer who understood straight away the style and feel I was going for. Everyone loves the new logo – it’s modern, clean and stands out as an independent coffee shop in West Bridgford."

Project : Coffee Shop Rebrand
Forde’s coffee and sandwich bar in West Bridgford opened its doors to its first customers last autumn. In the run up to their grand opening The New Fat helped to bring their brand style together through the design of a logo, shop signage, banners, loyalty cards and food menu.
Forde’s coffee and sandwich bar in West Bridgford opened its doors to its first customers last autumn. In the run up to their grand opening The New Fat helped to bring their brand style together through the design of a logo, shop signage, banners, loyalty cards and food menu.
A classic, upmarket and stylish venue, serving food and drinks throughout the day and evening as well as offering catering services to events. Our aim was to design and develop the brand identity and accompanying marketing material to help make the café a vibrant local hub.
The Logo
The first stage was to develop the logo; this would then influence the rest of the brand style. It was important to consider that the logo would need to work as a single colour for use on branded workwear such as aprons, as well as a suitable palette for the shop signage and banners. With social media being a main source of marketing for Forde’s we had to consider how the logo would work as a profile picture too.

The final logo includes a nice typeface, an icon and a grey feature colour. The icon takes inspiration from an architectural rosette featured on the side of the famous local landmark – Trent Bridge. This emphasises the ‘local’ feel and provides a great talking point for customers.
The brand style has been designed to be versatile, making it perfect for brand consistency across all marketing material as the business grows.

Encouraging Local Talent : Live Brief for Nottingham College
This project was featured as a live brief for the Graphic Design Foundation course at Nottingham College. Giving the students a chance to research, design and present their ideas to The New Fat and the client. This provided a brilliant opportunity, which influenced some interesting ideas and creative thinking for the final design.
Open for Business
The New Fat popped into Forde’s to sample lunch and chat to owner Sarah Vernau, who said things are going really well – “We have lots of new clientele as well as regulars. We are looking to expand the business catering side for local events in the coming year”
As you can see from the pictures it does look great – and the food is very nice indeed - well worth a visit.
