Karrimor are an outdoor clothing and
sports equipment specialist with over 60 years experience. With a background in
clothing, footwear and accessories suitable for walking, camping, running,
mountaineering and expeditions, Karrimor are at the cutting edge of technology.
With such a strong reputation to
maintain it is essential for Karrimor to represent their products in a way that
is in keeping with quality whilst providing consistency.
Bi-annually Karrimor release a catalogue with the next seasons product range in shoes and rucksacks. For the past 13 years The New Fat have put this project together – everything from managing product photography, image touch up, design and artwork, right through to production and printing.
Each catalogue consists of product
photographs and feature shots. Feature shots are used as page fillers and
section breaks, adding visual interest and showcasing key products. Whilst the standardised
product shots are kept clean and concise providing accurate colour representation
and technical detail for each product.
How the images are achieved
Prior to setting the
catalogue we take the products into the photography studio. A white backdrop is
set up and the product is placed on a mark that represents the three-quarter
angle. If the rucksacks are being photographed then all bags are stuffed to
give shape and rigged with transparent thread to keep the bags upright and to position
the straps correctly. The product is then evenly lit with studio lights to
emphasize the detail and colours. In the case of feature shots the shoes are
arranged creatively with other shoes, sometimes focusing on specific details
such as laces, stitching or technical features.
Once the photos have been shot
the images are taken into post production where the products are cut out,
touched up and placed on a white background free from shadows. The images are
exported as the correct file format ready to be placed into the catalogue.
With an eye for detail for
both images and content The New Fat pull out all the stops providing a quick
turn around from receiving the product samples, to delivering the final
catalogue.
The Outcome

catalogue with detailed images, technical specifications and product
information presented as a spiral bound book for distribution throughout their
